Volume-V of the Battle Colors© series covers all known combat groups and squadrons that conducted operations in all Areas of Operation within the Pacific Theater during World War II. The four U.S. Air Forces that participated in this conflict are contained within this work and represented by a total of 673 images that include 304 approved and unapproved group and squadron emblems. Volume IV of the 'Battle Colors' series concludes the examination of USAAF combat insignia and aircraft tactical markings in the European Theater during WWII. Covered within this work are the Ninth, Twelfth, and Fifteenth AAFs from the first to last combat operations by U.S. air power in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations.
Volume III of the 'Battle Colors' series focuses o nthe unit and tactical aircraft markings of the Ninth U.S. Army Air Force in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. For readers unfamiliar with its history a brief synopsis of the evolution of the Ninth AAF from inception to V-E Day is also included in this volume. All combat elements assigned to the Ninth AAF in the UK between 16 October 1943 and 8 May 1945 are included in this work which covers Fighter, Troop Carrier, Bombardment, and Reconnaissance Groups in addition to Night Fighter and Liaison Squadrons. A great deal of research has gone into presenting as many squadron insignia as possible, both official as as unofficial versions, Squadron fuselage codes and recognition colors are addressed within their respective sections and include maps showing the chronological listing and dates of each units assigned stations from pre-invasion England to Western Europe at wars end.
